NSW: Man charged over Cronulla race riot jailed for three months
A Sydney man charged over the beachside Cronulla race riot .. has been jailed for up
to three months for his role in the violence.
19-year-old DANNY GLEN SHANAHAN was sentenced in Sutherland Local Court to at least
10 weeks in prison for assaulting a Middle Eastern man .. SAFI MERHI .. during the December
11th riot.
With 34 days in custody already served .. SHANAHAN will be eligible for parole on May 10th.
Magistrate WILLIAM BRYDON said SHANAHAN had gone to Cronulla after receiving text messages
encouraging white Australians to gather at the beach.
He said SHANAHAN had good prospects for rehabilitation.
SHANAHAN'S defence lawyer .. LIONEL RATTENBURY .. says he'll appeal and apply for bail.
