NSW:Mum killer not guilty of murder
A man who killed his mother in a frenzied knife attack has been found NOT GUILTY of
her murder on the grounds of mental illness.
Two months before GULGHUGAIE NIAZI was attacked, she expressed optimism about her son
returning to the family home after an involuntary stay in a Sydney psychiatric hospital.
BAZIR NIAZI had been put in the hospital after assaulting and threatening his mother
with a knife, but on his release expressed heartfelt regret that he had hurt her.
In the NSW Supreme Court today, Justice ELIZABETH FULLERTON found BAZIR NIAZI not guilty
of murdering his 54-year-old mother in July last year, accepting expert opinion the then
24-year-old was suffering from acute paranoid schizophrenia at the time.
She's ordered NIAZI be detained in a mental health facility until, and if, he's deemed
not to be a danger to himself or the community.
