NT: Eighteen crocs stolen from Darwin farm
Police say blackmarket money or a crocodile fetish probably drove thieves to steal
18 baby saltwater crocs from a farm in the Darwin region.
They struck sometime in the hours before seven o'clock (CST) on Tuesday morning ..
when an unknown number of intruders entered the farm.
The baby saltwater crocodiles measure about 37 centimetres long .. are only about a
week old .. and have identification tags printed with a number attached to both rear feet.
Raised scales on their tails have also been clipped as a permanent ID mark.
MATT CRICHTON from Darwin Police says the thieves could try to sell the animals on
the black market for one-thousand dollars each .. or maybe .. they have a fetish for crocodiles.
