Security fences to go up around NSW schools under govt plan
Security fences will go up at more New South Wales schools under new education policiesannounced by the state government.
Some $20 million will be spent over four years to erect security fences at another200 schools, taking the number to 450 by 2007.
Premier BOB CARR says schools with the fences had seen a 70 per cent cut in vandalismand break-ins rates, with arson down 90 per cent.
The government's Safer Schools Plan also includes training for principals in handlingviolent incidents, a toll-free number linking principals with police, and the installationof locks to prevent computer theft.
But Opposition education spokesman BARRY O'FARRELL accused the government of actingafter losing $20 million worth of computers.
